Hillary & Peyton – Lakeside Engagement Session at Southern Lake Farms Cookeville, Tennessee

One of the perks of being a photographer is being there for people’s special occasions. We love witnessing life’s milestones through our lens. Hillary is one of our clients who we’ve watched grow for years! From her senior session, to her new baby, to her secret proposal and now engagement, we have documented each step, and it has been so fun watching her life and future unfold right before our eyes. For their engagement session, these two chose Southern Lake Farms. It’s a quaint cabin with attached boathouse set on a lush green lawn overlooking a wrap-around lake. We love

A birthday message to Brandon

I know that public attention isn’t your thing. I know that you never believe anyone who tells you how awesome you are. And I know you always think you can do better. So I know that you’ll feel uncomfortable the whole time you read this blog post. But I also know just how insanely hard you work, every single day, to support my dreams even when it means your plans might sometimes get put on the back burner. I see how you constantly put others above yourself and go out of your way for someone in need, even if you

Kendra & David – Lush Spring Wedding at the Clark House in Livingston, Tennessee

They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck. Well, then David and Kendra have some awesome luck 🙂 The day before their wedding, the rain poured harder than it had all year. Buckets of rain, tons of wind, and thunder just for good measure. And luckily their wedding was on a Sunday so most of the storm passed through. But still, the rain was lingering and the temps stayed cool. Through it all, Kendra and David kept their focus on each other and their commitment. The wonderful crew at the Clark House was so accommodating and did

Kayla & Josh – Classic Church Wedding in the Heart of Cookeville Tennessee

Kayla and Josh have a super sweet, matured sense of love and trust about them. Both very poised, Josh brings Kayla out of her shell, while she keeps him grounded. They live in Texas and planned a wedding here in Tennessee, with, I’m sure, much help from her mom and twin sister. And it was beyond perfect. The sky was magic with just the right amount of clouds when we needed them, the temps were perfect, and the breeze just enough of a kiss in the air. These two were joined by some of the most supportive bridal party and

Stopped at a Green Light

You’ve heard the old saying “You can be right, or you can be happy.”  Although I would argue it’s much deeper than that, I do agree that there is a lot of truth in that statement. The other day while driving, I observed this in action. The light I was stopped at had turned green and the car in front of me just sat there. I was, as I usually am, in a hurry, and so I started to get annoyed. I huffed and puffed and placed my hand to the center of the wheel to start honking as I peeked around

Kristina & Kris – Nashville Tennessee Destination Wedding

Kristina and Kris came all the way from Michigan to good ol’ Nashville for their wedding. They loved Broadway and the country music vibe, so we spent some time roaming the streets before their vows. These two are a fun-loving couple and were so kind and trusting of us. We truly enjoyed their day and capturing these special images for them. From the stories we heard, Kristina and Kris are full of life and laughter, and their family is near and dear to their hearts. We began the day on West End and Centennial Park and then strolled through Broadway

Our Top 5 Secrets to a Thriving Marriage

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but this summer Brandon and I will celebrate ten years of marriage. We’ve been together as a couple for over 15 years and friends for an additional 2 before that. While I need to make a caveat that our marriage is absolutely NOT perfect, I do think we have a strong one and I’d love to share a few things we’ve learned along the way so that we can help our newlyweds and brides-to-be in their new journey. Here are 5 things we feel are important to building (and maintaining) a great marriage.  1. Go to bed

Alissa & James – Del Monaco Winery Elopement

Imagine being surrounded by 14 of your closest family and friends and speaking your deepest words of commitment to your loved one on a balcony. That’s exactly what Alissa and James did a couple of weeks ago. It was a wonderful spring day with blue skies,  peppered with small clouds that were pushed along by the wind. This couple, along with their small crew, traveled from Nashville to Baxter in order to celebrate their love at Del Monaco Winery and Vineyards. When we talked with them about their elopement style wedding day and the plans included a waffle bar, we

Julianne & Jake – Spring Engagement Session, Rickman Tennessee

We adored Julianne and Jake from the first time we met them. Even if Brandon spilled hot tea in Jake’s lap (which may or may not have really happened!) they were still so incredibly kind to us and were genuinely excited to work with us for their engagement session and wedding. Though we met too late to squeeze in a fall session, we planned for an adorable snow session at the family cabin where Jake proposed. The first snow of the year fell during a time we planned to be out of the country so this sweet couple had to

From Shooters to Subjects – Our Photo Session

As we planned for a trip to the Dominican Republic last fall, I stumbled upon a local photographer on instagram whose photos made me swoon. I began stalking, as one does, and became enamored with this idea of doing an anniversary session on the beach. Brandon and I rarely have photos of ourselves. Beyond quick cell phone snaps, we have only had two photo sessions done of us. With each one, I learned what I liked and didn’t but still didn’t feel entirely comfortable in the role of “subject.” Since we were traveling in a foreign country, we were at
